“Desserts from the Cardinal’s table”, is the worthy sequel to *Dishes from the Cardinal’s table*, inviting readers on yet another gastronomic journey into the 19th-century world of desserts enjoyed by the Prince-Primates of Esztergom. Published by the Christian Museum – which will celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2025 – the book serves as a unique collection of recipes, linking the flavours of the past with the cuisine of the present.
The publication is based on handwritten German-language recipe collections preserved in the Archiepiscopal Simor Library, as well as contemporary menus, accounts and archival sources. The carefully reconstructed recipes – ranging from speciality desserts to simpler cakes and drinks – are accompanied by stories and interesting facts, offering an insight into the daily life of the Primate’s court and providing a culinary experience that is still easy to recreate today.
