Put on your hiking boots and walk along the Tardos canopy trail, conquer the most beautiful peaks of the area and admire the panoramic view from the hilltops!
Tardos Canopy Nature Trail
Discover the world of canopies that cannot be seen from the ground! The circular trail in the Gerecse Nature Reserve, which is 44 m in diameter and 105 m long, leads through an old quarry and above an intermittent watercourse at an altitude of 11 m.
The information panels on the trail will give you a lot of interesting information about the fauna of the canopy and the cultural and historical development of the Gerecse region. Instead of steps, a gradually rising oak floor leads up to the tree canopy, making the above-ground walkway easy for families with young children and older hikers alike.
The canopy trail tour is free of charge. More information can be found here.
The most beautiful heights of the Gerecse hills
You can enjoy unforgettable panoramic views and unique natural shapes as you hike along the high plateaus between Dorog and Bajót. Once you've climbed the 403-metre-high Gete hill and the white limestone cone of the Hegyes-kő, walk up to the strange rock formations of Kő hill. From here you have a fabulous view of the Esztergom Basilica and the Danube. Visit the Calvary on the hilltop, the Salesians' church and monastery in Péliföldszentkereszt, then stop for a break at the cave of Lourdes, built in 1937. You will find a detailed description of the hike on the Hiking Tips page.
Climbing the 633-metre-high Nagy-Gerecse can be a separate excursion, or you can combine it with a visit to the Tardos canopy trail.
Be prepared for moderately difficult hikes with high altitude differences. Take enough water with you, as there is limited access to water, and wear hiking boots!
