Church documents that changed the world - a visit to the Pauline Library

Add to 'My Itinerary'
Budapest

There are few things more exciting than finding a time capsule. Surprisingly, there is one popping up from somewhere almost each year. For example, when renovating a chandelier or remodelling a building. We are now following in the footsteps of such time capsules. Certificates of baptism hidden in walls, surprising inscriptions in old birth registers, or multilingual Bibles are revealed from the depths of churches, or from the secluded Baroque library of the city centre.

They hold the secrets of the past, which in one way or another had influence on the way the world was progressing. Let's now enter the Pauline monks’ breathtakingly beautiful library, wander around the “Little Vatican” together, and discover the stories behind the hidden documents in churches and monasteries. You'll also discover how ornate missals were made, how certificates of baptism can save lives, and what's hidden in the St. Roch Chapel.

The highlight of the walk is the Baroque library of the Central Seminary.

The programme is the second thematic walk of Esztergom-Budapest Archdiocese and ImagineBudapest.

What we will visit:

  • Pauline Library – Central Seminary
  • Documents of St. Roch Chapel
  • Documents of St. Teresa of Avila Parish Church
